Mission: Make Medication Inexpensive, Clearly Prices and Easy to Purchase

Jan. 10th 2017

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, one of the most important devices that helps control this is your smartphone. Your smartphone not only makes your life more scheduled and planned, but also helps you save money by availing discounts through several apps.

Sometimes we don’t even realize how this little thing can help us enhance not only our professional life but personal life as well. From connectivity to efficiency to entertainment, your smartphone has it all.

In the current scenario of the world, where healthcare is one of the most talked about issues, people are more into ways through which they can save some of their money using website or apps, there is another solution called Blink Health.

The mission of Blink Health is, “to make medication inexpensive, clearly priced and easy to purchase.”

Blink Health has contributed to providing lower prices for generic medications which might be available at every major pharmacy around the country. A number of pharmacies do not focus on listing the prices of the drugs that are available with them, and consumers do not even have the slightest idea of what they are paying.

The issue of drug pricing has been raised at a congressional hearing and Representative Peter Welch, Democrat of Vermont, asked an executive of Turing Pharmaceuticals, which was in the limelight after sharply raising prices on a little-known drug, “Why isn’t it possible to just have a price where anybody who wants to know what that price is can go to a website and see?”

Everyone is well aware of the fact that Americans are not happy with the insurance plans because they are way out of what their wallets can spare.

BlinkHealth allows customers to pay for their drugs online and later they can visit any pharmacy to pick them up. “This is the first time the consumer knows what the price of the item is before they get to the register,” said Geoffrey Chaiken, who is one of Blink Health’s founders.

Most commonly prescribed drugs of the country are

  • Synthroid (levothyroxine)
  • Crestor (rosuvastatin)
  • Ventolin HFA (albuterol)
  • Nexium (esomeprazole)
  • Advair Diskus (fluticasone)
  • Lantus Solostar (insulin glargine)

And most of these are less than $10, and they have certain generic versions as well.

The Chaiken brothers also claim that BlinkHealth has offered prices than what is being offered at much lower costs. “Using the power of Internet to aggregate,” he said, “when we negotiate, we look to pharmacies like we’re 25 million people.”

“If someone’s paying $15 for a drug, we negotiate something south of that and take a small percentage of savings as revenue,” Geoffrey Chaiken said. “We rely on a making thin margins on a lot of volume.”

Patients are more than welcome to use Blink even if they are insured, all they need to do is to compare the Blink price with the copay.

Blink is working hard to make the discounts applicable on brand name medication as well in the near future.

Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program

Jan. 8th 2017

Starting January 1, 2017, Blink Health is offering a 40 percent discount on insulins provided by Lily under the Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program. The insulins, including Humalog which is one of the most commonly administered branded insulin medication, will be delivered directly to patients at more than 67,000 pharmacies all over the country.

The Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program is an initiative first of its kind aimed at providing insulins at a low cost to all those patients without insurance who otherwise have to pay full price at the pharmacies. With Blink Health collaborating with Eli Lily and Company, this program is an effective step to reduce the high costs of essential prescription medications and improve healthcare benefits for those who truly need them and hence has started a shift in the drug pricing. The said program has Blink’s Technology platform to give credit to for its make-up as it is a manufacturer-funded patient access program. In its efforts to balance the consumers who are faced with ever-increasing health care expenses, this program is a major step to ensure that.

Blink Health Vice Chairman Bill Doyle explaining the company’s aims says Blink Health’s technology is ever ready to join hands with industry participants to provide medications at a cost that people can afford. Blink Health Technology believes in innovation to back their goal of lowering drug prices. Adding to it, the company’s CEO and Co-Founder Geoffrey Chaiken have also mentioned their plans to let patients using Blink Health’s app or website gain access to low-cost medications from their local stores all over the states. Furthermore, the COO and co-founder Matthew Chaiken has hinted on Blink Health launching more programs like Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program over the year to improve the out of pocket expenses of healthcare for Americans.

The major drugs that the program includes all forms of Humalog® (insulin lispro injection 100 units/mL), all Humulin® U100 formulations (insulin human injection 100 units/mL), and Basaglar® (insulin glargine injection 100 units/mL). All these high-priced drugs are to be offered to everyone who takes part in this program at a discount of 40 percent.

Now the question is how to participate in this program to gain such extraordinary health benefits. It’s fairly simple and pretty much everyone can become a part of this program. All you have to do is use the Blink Health’s mobile app or website to opt into the Blink Health Insulin Patient Access Program. These accounts will have no membership fee or monthly premiums. The patient shall be required to fill in a form specifying the dosage and quantity of Lily insulins prescribed to them to get the discount. For convenience, the cost can be paid online so that the medicines can be picked up from the nearest US pharmacy.

including Walgreens, CVS/pharmacy, Target, RiteAid, Safeway and Kroger. The purchases made are fully refundable.

The only people who are not eligible to benefit from this program are those under any federal government program.

Planning for your Future

Sep. 15th 2016

While many of us make our own retirement plans, no one is able to prepare for all of the complexities of the future without professional help.

Take the case of Mary Smith, who recently lost her best friend and neighbor of almost 40 years to Alzheimer’s. Nancy had been an active, energetic person, always helping Mary with gardening and Mary found it painful to see such a vibrant person slip away.

Now, Nancy’s two sons were fighting over the little money left after selling Nancy’s house to pay her medical bills. It broke Mary’s heart to remember how many times Nancy had proudly declared that she intended to pay for her grandson’s college education.

During a regular visit to her insurance agent, Mary shared this story and said, “It all makes me feel so helpless!”

For a good insurance agent, there are many tools available to deal with almost any situation. For example, Mary learned more about how to protect her assets from with Long Term Care insurance and the insurance products that can ensure she has access to the best possible healthcare without risking her financial security.

We developed a detailed description of her current financial situation, her desires for the future, including how she wants to provide for her family after she’s gone, and establish the best possible coverage for her. At the same time, we shared this information with a highly qualified attorney who can write a will and associated legal documentation—including powers of attorney and a living will—to make sure that Mary’s wishes are carried forth even if she cannot speak for herself.

She doesn’t need to learn the complexities of the insurance industry or the subtleties of law. She just needs to describe her dreams for the future once and her insurance agent and attorney can coordinate the information to create a comprehensive and complete package that will protect her future.

That’s the benefit of an insurance agent who has a strong professional relationship with a good lawyer. Each offers the expertise that you need and can clearly outline what you need, when you need it, with you and each other to ensure there are no gaps in your plan for the future.

Don’t waste your time or risk your future by running back and forth between offices, trying to repeat what you remember and guess at the questions that require answers. Relax and enjoy the peace of mind that comes from having a team working for you.

Call Roberson Tierney today to learn more about our professional relationships and ability to provide you with comprehensive life planning services.
